Bassam Abu-Nabah is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the American University of Sharjah (AUS). In this role, he targets nondestructive evaluation (NDE) and metrology research topics relevant to both Aviation and Oil & Gas industries. Throughout his education and work experiences, he gained valuable and diverse proficiencies in different aspects of engineering and engineering management. In 2001, he completed his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering majoring in fluid dynamics and heat transfer from Jordan University of Science and Technology. He completed his MS degree in 2003 in Mechanical Engineering from University of Cincinnati majoring in fluid dynamics. In 2007, he completed his PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering from University of Cincinnati majoring in solids and structure mechanics with NDE research background. After completing his PhD degree, he worked for GE Aviation in Cincinnati, Ohio for three years as an NDE Staff Engineer with research and development (R&D) focus. He was fortunate to lead and support R&D programs globally at different technology readiness levels and assessing manufacturing processes at different manufacturing readiness levels. He held a senior position as a Global NDE Leader for GE Oil & Gas – Drilling and Production in Houston, Texas for two years, where he won the Above and Beyond Award in 2012. He was fortunate to support NDE processes at technology, manufacturing and souring levels globally. His industrial and educational backgrounds mentored him to deliver practical NDE research solutions relevant to the industry through working at AUS. Recently, he established an NDE research lab at AUS covering capabilities in eddy current, thermography and ultrasonics NDE along with laser vision surface profiling capabilities.
